Carolyn Marr
"My aim in ceramics is to make objects that arrest attention and invite handling. I take an experimental approach to materials and making that is both interrogatory and celebratory. As well as the visual, I pay close attention to the tactile nature of the materials I use and the sculpture and vessels I make and to their changing nature through time.
Consistent avenues of exploration include light and shade, simplicity and complexity, and group dynamics. I’m continuing experimenting with basic forms and their variations.
Based in Brampton, Northeast Cumbria, I'm a regular exhibitor at local events and galleries. I've also shown work in galleries in Northern and Southwest England, Venice and Montreal. I'm a member of Eden Valley Artistic Network (EVAN), Northern Potters Association and Bensham Grove Pottery.
I have a BA in modern languages and an MA in Southeast Asia Area Studies. After working in the fields of education and environmental justice, I studied ceramics at Newcastle College, completing a FdA in Contemporary Ceramic Practice in 2011. I've recently completed an MA in Contemporary Art and Archaeology at the University of Highlands and Islands"
Denise Huddleston
Denise is an artist printmaker, inspired by wildness in nature. As an avid walker and wildlife watcher, Cumbria and the wilder parts of the UK have forever been her inspiration .
With a background in stitched textiles and interiors, she spent many years in the Lake District where she lectured and exhibited nationally and further afield.
More recently, she explored printmaking in Scotland’s wilder landscapes, working from a small garden studio/gallery at her home on the Isle of Skye for 12 years.
Denise is now permanently back in Cumbria and currently setting up her home studio in a village close to Lanercost, an area she knows well after many years exhibiting with Craftsmen at the Priory.
Handmade silkscreen prints, monotypes. collagraph prints and jewellery reflect the beauty of her surroundings. www.cuckootree.com
Tricia Meynell
I use my camera as a sort of ‘digital paintbrush’ - preferring to make work that borders on the imaginary but which actually comes straight from the camera without fiddling around with technology.
For me, the beauty of an image is dependent on being able to ‘read into’ it - not necessarily seeing it for what the reality was, but for what I would like to see in my mind. Much of my work is created by moving the camera in a controlled way whilst shooting, relying on relatively ‘bad weather’ or at least dull or darkened skies to enable long exposures and a chance to sweep the camera across the horizon…..often resulting in rather strange looks from passers by.
My love of being in, on, or around water is evident in my imagery. Fortunately, living in Cumbria, there’s lots of it!

Julia Neubauer
Julia is a knitwear designer and Maker. Based at the Brewhouse Studios, overlooking the river in Alston, Cumbria.
Her hand framed knitwear is mainly made from British pure wool from Yorkshire woollen mills. She also produces a range of accessories in British spun extra fine Merino from a non mulesed source.
A new sustainable range has recently been added to her collections. The wool only travels 50 miles from farm to yarn, supports British farmers and comes in lovely muted colours.
Julia’s design collections are constantly changing as new colour combinations and design influences catch her eye. Accessories include wristwarmers, hats, headbands, scarves and neckwarmers as well as simple garments and homeware.
